OtioCare
is a mobile application for family members and loved ones (relatives, friends, neighbors) who care for and look after elderly people. Working together with the OtioCare Serenity Pack, sensors installed in the senior's home collect signals of daily life and display in real time the time spent in each room, mealtimes, and wake-up and bedtime hours. The app enables caring supervision even at a distance and helps respond wisely to changes in habits or decreased activity

Groupe HBF is a French company with over 25 years of experience in developing electrical and digital solutions that improve people's everyday lives. Through the OtioCare program, the company addresses one of today's key social challenges: helping seniors live independently at home while giving their families peace of mind. The solution combines connected home sensors with a mobile app for caregivers
Solution
We joined the project to modernize the existing OtioCare application and extend its functionality. The first step was a complete architecture overhaul: we introduced the MVVM pattern with Prism, configured dependency injection, extracted shared base libraries, and refactored the codebase to eliminate duplicated code and redundant services. This created a clean, consistent foundation for further development.

For real-time monitoring, we integrated SignalR to stream telemetry and events from home sensors. This allows caregivers to instantly see what is happening in their relative's home and receive timely alerts when weak activity signals are detected. Push notifications are delivered via Azure Notification Hubs.
Sensor data is presented through custom line and bar charts rendered with SkiaSharp, with optimized redrawing for smooth performance. We also developed a SkiaSharp-based calendar component that displays events, supports filtering by sensor type, and loads data page by page, so users can easily review daily routines and spot changes over time.

Secure registration and sign-in were implemented with Microsoft Identity Client and Azure AD B2C. Finally, we added multi-language support based on .resx resources and a locale selection service, translating key screens and building an infrastructure that makes adding new languages quick and simple.
The result is a modern, stable, and scalable application that helps families stay connected with their elderly relatives and react in time when support is needed.

Challenges
Refactoring a fragmented architecture
The existing codebase suffered from duplicated code, redundant services, and complex dependency management. We had to introduce MVVM and DI and extract shared libraries without disrupting the app's existing functionality
Modernizing navigation and user interactions
The old navigation was inconvenient and did not meet current UI/UX standards, and there was no unified system for notifications and user confirmations. The challenge was to redesign both while keeping the experience familiar for existing users
Delivering sensor data in real time
Caregivers need to receive critical information about their relative's activity without delay. Implementing reliable streaming of telemetry and events via SignalR required stable connection handling and timely alerts on weak activity signals
Building high-performance data visualization
Visualizing daily activity from multiple sensors required custom SkiaSharp charts and a calendar component capable of handling large amounts of event data while remaining smooth and responsive
Implementing secure and fast authentication
Protecting sensitive data about elderly people required a secure yet quickly integrated sign-in solution, which we delivered with Microsoft Identity Client and Azure AD B2C
