Inventara

is a mobile warehouse assistant for accounting, storing, and managing goods. The app allows warehouse staff to easily register incoming and outgoing shipments: users specify the shelf and pallet number of the item, choose the operation (add to or remove from stock), and complete a step-by-step product registration with barcode scanning. Built with Xamarin.Forms for Android, the application streamlines daily warehouse operations and minimizes the risk of manual errors

A Netherlands-based company that owns and operates warehouses in the Netherlands and Turkey. The company manages the storage and movement of goods across facilities in two countries, coordinating the work of local warehouse teams. Accurate inventory control and efficient daily operations are at the core of its business

Solution

We developed a mobile application for Android that turns a smartphone or handheld device into a full-featured warehouse assistant for the client's internal use. Built for warehouse teams in the Netherlands and Turkey, the app provides a single, consistent workflow for registering goods across all facilities. Xamarin.Forms was chosen to ensure fast development, a clean and maintainable codebase, and native-like performance on the devices used by warehouse staff.

Every operation follows a clear, guided workflow. The user selects the shelf and pallet, chooses whether goods are being added to or removed from stock, and completes a step-by-step registration process. This structured approach reduces the cognitive load on employees and keeps inventory records consistent across the warehouse.

Barcode scanning was implemented using ZXing (BarcodeScanner.XF), providing fast and accurate product identification directly through the device camera. This eliminated most manual data entry and significantly accelerated the registration of incoming and outgoing goods.

To address inventory management errors caused by incomplete product data, we added a dedicated product information page. It displays extended details about each item before an operation is confirmed, allowing staff to verify that they are handling the correct product and to make informed decisions on the spot.

All data is synchronized with the backend via a stable REST API integration, ensuring that stock levels and product records stay up to date in real time.

The result is a reliable and intuitive warehouse tool that speeds up daily operations and reduces the risk of costly inventory errors.

Challenges

Preventing inventory errors caused by incomplete product data

In some cases, the lack of additional product information led to warehouse management errors. The challenge was to design a dedicated product details page that provides all the necessary data at the right step of the workflow without slowing down operations

Creating a unified workflow for warehouses in two countries

The client's warehouses in the Netherlands and Turkey needed a single, consistent process for registering goods. The app had to be simple enough for staff at all facilities to use in the same way, keeping inventory records accurate across locations

Integrating fast and reliable barcode scanning

Implementing camera-based barcode recognition with ZXing required ensuring stable and accurate scanning under real warehouse conditions, including poor lighting, damaged labels, and different barcode formats

Ensuring reliable data synchronization via REST API

Keeping stock levels and product records consistent required dependable communication with backend services and robust error handling, so that no operation is lost even if the connection is interrupted
