Instore Excellence ApS is a Denmark-based technology company founded in 2014, specializing in B2B SaaS solutions for retail operations management. The company develops digital tools that help multi-location retail businesses standardize workflows, improve transparency, and optimize in-store performance across distributed networks.

Solution

To modernize and stabilize the application, we redesigned the core architecture with a focus on reliability, scalability, and long-term sustainability. The migration from Xamarin.Forms to .NET MAUI ensured future platform compatibility, while centralized error monitoring and improved exception handling significantly increased overall stability and transparency of the system.

We strengthened the authentication layer and role-based access model to support a structured multi-level permission system. This ensures secure access for Super Users, District Managers, and Store Managers, while maintaining data integrity across distributed retail networks.

We introduced centralized error monitoring and enhanced logging mechanisms, allowing faster incident diagnostics and more efficient issue resolution. This significantly reduced downtime and improved transparency in application performance across environments.

To improve responsiveness, we redesigned the data loading strategy by implementing lazy initialization and demand-based data fetching. This reduced startup time, minimized unnecessary computations, and ensured smoother performance even when handling large datasets.

Additionally, we enabled stable background processing for publishing large reports, ensuring uninterrupted user workflows even when the application is not in the foreground. The user interface was modernized with updated components and enhanced interaction patterns, delivering a cleaner and more intuitive experience.

Challenges

Implementing centralized error monitoring and diagnostics

Establishing a reliable error monitoring system was critical due to the lack of structured logs and reproducible crash data. The challenge was to introduce centralized tracking and detailed diagnostics while keeping the application stable and performance-efficient

Refactoring architecture for stability and performance

The application contained complex logic, duplicated code, and inconsistent exception handling that affected reliability. A comprehensive refactoring effort was required to simplify the architecture, improve maintainability, and reduce the risk of runtime failures

Optimizing application startup and data loading strategy

The initial data preloading approach caused long startup times and unnecessary resource consumption. The key challenge was redesigning the loading mechanism with lazy initialization and demand-based data fetching to improve responsiveness without breaking existing workflows

Migrating to .NET MAUI and modernizing the user experience

With Xamarin.Forms reaching end of support, migrating to .NET MAUI was essential for long-term sustainability. The migration required preserving existing functionality, adapting platform-specific code, enabling background operations for large report publishing, and upgrading UI components to meet modern UX standards
